West of the Mogol River in the distinctive bush veld landscape the foothills of the Waterberg range, lies the tranquil town of Lephalale (formerly known as Ellisras).

The town is well-known for its Coal Mining industry and for the new Dry-Cooled Power Station called Medupi.  The phenomenal growth in this area is largely due to the fact that this region holds more than 50% of SA's coal reserves.  The recent announcement by the World Bank approving Eskom's R28 billion loan sealed the deal - the Medupi power station is underway, bringing with it the expansion of local coal mines and the promise of greater wealth for the entire region.  Exxaro, SA's biggest black-empowered mining company, reports that an additional 2500 people will become permanent residents of the town by October this year and the population is expected to grow even further as the power stations and expansion of the coal mines progress.

The Lephalale area is immensely rich in attractions and undiscovered treasures are sadly underappreciated, but this unexpected beauty is sure to capture and keep you!
